Innerzone Orchestra's "Programmed" won the award for Best Electronic Recording at the Detroit Metro Times sponsored Detroit Music Awards. |
|
"Programmed," the debut album from Carl Craig's Innerzone Orchestra, was released on August 24th.. Based out of Detroit, Innerzone Orchestra began as an alias of Planet-E label head Carl Craig, with the release of the now legendary single "Bug In The Bassbin," in 1992. Since then, Innerzone Orchestra has expanded into a band which now consists of Carl Craig (programming) along with former Sun Ra Arkestra drummer Francisco Mora (drums, percussion), pianist Craig Taborn (piano, keyboards), and bassist Rodney Whitaker (upright bass). The band and the album challenge the concept of what jazz music is in 1999. But to call Innerzone Orchestra just a jazz act would be unjustly limiting exactly how far reaching a musical scope this band and "Programmed" have acheived. "Programmed" is a culmination of all the musical styles (soul, jazz, hip-hop, and techno) that the Innerzone Orchestra have been surrounded by living in Detroit. |
